What is CBT and how can it help with anxiety?
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a structured, practical form of talking therapy that looks at the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours.
CBT for anxiety can help you understand patterns that may be keeping anxiety going andf develop practical ways to respond differently. It can be helpful for problems such as excessive worry, panic, social anxiety, health anxiety and specific fears/phobias.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. Some people find that 6–12 sessions are enough to achieve their goals, while others prefer longer-term support. It depends on what you're experiencing, your goals, how long the difficulty has been present and the type of support that is appropriate for you. We can discuss this in our first session together, and review your progress as we go along.
How do I book a session?
You can book your free 15 minute introductory call by phone, text, WhatsApp or email. I'll get back to you within 24hrs. During this call we can have a chat about what has brought you to counselling and how I can help you. You can decide if you feel I am the right therapist for you, then we can schedule in your first therapy session if you'd like to go ahead - or you can have a think and get back to me.

What if I need to cancel a session?
That's fine, sometimes you may not be able to attend your session for many different reasons. I will do my best to reschedule your session at a different time if my availability allows, and of course if you want to. Please give me 48hrs notice where possible. Due to hiring a therapy space I will have to charge if I receive less than 48 hours notice.
What will the first session be like?
Our first session together will be like having an informal chat, I want you to feel as comfortable as possible - I will be gathering some background information, so I will ask you questions about what you are experiencing, how your life is being affected, anything you may have tried in the past that has or hasn't worked, any significant events that may be related to how you are feeling now, etc. I will explain a bit more about how I work and will answer any questions you have.
How do Counsellors know what it feels like?
Lots of Counsellors have had therapy, and yes I have too. So I know how it feels (for me, anyway) to sit in the client's chair. I remember feeling anxious about going to my first session, I didn't know what I was going to talk about and thought the Counsellor might judge me or look down on me. I worried incase I got upset and started crying uncontrollably in the session, but thankfully I was wrong. My counsellor made me feel at ease by just being natural ... and normal. That's how I want to come across to you too.
Can CBT help with overthinking?
Yes. CBT can help you recognise patterns of overthinking and explore the thoughts, assumptions and behaviours that may be keeping the cycle going. I can help you to learn practical ways of stepping back from anxious thoughts rather than automatically treating them as facts.
Can CBT help with negative thoughts?
Yes. CBT can help you identify recurring patterns of negative thinking and explore whether the thoughts are accurate, helpful or based on assumptions. The aim isn't to replace every negative thought with a positive one, but to develop a more flexible way of responding.
Do you offer online anxiety counselling?
Yes. I offer online counselling to clients across the UK, as well as in-person counselling in Colchester, Essex.
Do I need a diagnosis to have Counselling?
No. You don't need a formal diagnosis to seek counselling. You may simply know that you're struggling with anxiety, stress, overthinking or negative thoughts and would like some support.
Can Counselling help me stop thinking the worst will happen?
Counselling can help you understand why your mind may automatically move towards worst-case scenarios. CBT techniques can help you examine these predictions and develop more balanced and helpful ways of responding to uncertainty.
Can CBT help with panic attacks?
CBT can be an effective approach for understanding and managing panic attacks. It can help you explore what happens before, during and after a panic attack and identify patterns that may contribute to ongoing fear of panic.
Treatment may include learning practical strategies to respond differently to physical sensations, anxious thoughts and situations that you may have started avoiding.
